Don't Miss this unique Conference!

INTRODUCTION

The goal of this conference is to bring together two groups of scientists, who are foremost experts in the environmental fate of uranium or in uranium isotope geochemistry, to foster interactions that will lead to better integration of these two aspects of U biogeochemistry. Topics of interest will range from the microbial or chemical transformations of uranium, analytical developments in the characterization of uranium concentration, speciation, and reactivity, computational modeling of fate and transport of uranium and its isotopic fractionation, use of uranium isotopes in paleoreconstructions, field and laboratory studies of uranium mobility and remediation or U contamination, as well as molecular scale mechanisms of microbial and chemical uranium transformations. The conference will promote interdisciplinary exchanges and encourage discussions amongst junior and senior researchers. The ultimate goal of the meeting is to advance the field of U biogeochemistry by fostering closer interactions between two communities that study U geochemistry but that are distinct and that would benefit from more collaboration.

The setting of the Centro Stefano Franscini (CSF) is ideal to allow extensive discussion, both during plenary presentations and in smaller groups. All meals are served in the premises and the accommodation is also within the center. The CSF is located on the Monte Veritá, above Ascona in the Canton Ticino, in the Southern part of Switzerland and is situated in a scenic park with a marvelous view on the Lago Maggiore and the Alp Mountains.

The workshop will keep an unhurried pace and is designed to encourage discussions after talks, during breaks and meals, and in the evenings. The attendance is limited to 90 participants.
